Award Winning Show Roosters to Open May 3rd and 5th

Wildcat OAP cast and crew will be presenting their award-winning play Roosters to the public on Thursday, May 3 and Saturday, May 5. The play has won multiple awards at the District, Bi-District, Area, and Regional level of UIL competition. Sanchez-Scott’s ‘Roosters’ dives into the ideas of family dysfunction and the love that exists within that dysfunction. The play blends magic with realism and makes a bold statement against the “machiste” culture.

The play will be performed at the Carrizo Springs High School Auditorium on both May 3rd and 5th at 7:30 p.m. The admission fee for the show will be five dollars at the door. Please come and support the award-winning Wildcat Theatre Program as they bring you Awesome Wildcat Star Power!

Wildcat Thespians Win Honors At OAP Regional Competition

Ojeda, Oyervides III, and Rios Win Medallions

Congratulations to Wildcat OAP thespians who won honor medallions at the UIL Region IV One-Act Play contest when the Wildcat UIL OAP production of Roosters competed in Corpus Christi last week. Lydia Rios won the UIL Honor Crew medallion for state management. Omar Ojeda won the UIL Honorable Mention All-Star Cast medallion for his portrayal of Hector and Juan Oyervides, III won the UIL All-Star Cast medallion for his portrayal of Adan.

We would like to thank these three thespians and the rest of the Roosters cast and crew and directors for a wonderful journey this past year. The play Roosters closes the season in the top twenty-four of three-hundred plays in the state in class 4-A. As your season comes to a close, congratulations on all of your accomplishments and success. Awesome Wildcat Star Power!

CSHS Wildcat UIL Regular Season Comes to a Close

Cats Get Ready for District Competition

Wildcat UIL Academics has traveled to many invitational meets in order to sharpen their skills to prepare for district competition. Since October, when the Cats traveled to the UIL Student Activities Conference in Austin to the last regular season March tournament in Somerset, the Wildcat UIL’ers have pawed their way through many a tournament and several competitive schools in order to polish their claws and hone their skill to prepare for the district competition.

At the Laredo Nixon UIL Tournament on December 8 & 9, the Cats had a great showing and brought home individual and team awards. In Number Sense Gift Owolabi won tournament champion by winning 1^st place while teammate Jazmine Velasquez won 5^th place. In Calculator Applications, Gift Owolabi and Jasmine Velasquez did an awesome job of winning 1^st place in their respective divisions of 11^th and 10^th grade and newcomer Shawn Perez showed his promise winning 7^th place in the 9^th grade division. The team of Gift, Jasmine, and Shawn won 1^st place Calculator Applications team. In Headline Writing Maria Isabel Selgado won tournament champion by winning 1^st place while teammate Lydia Rios won 6^th place. In Mathematics Gift Owolabi won 3^rd place in the 11^th grade division, Jasmine Velasquez won 3^rd place in 10^th grade division and Audrey Arroniz won 7^th place in the 8th grade division. The team of Gift, Jasmine, and Audrey won second place team. In Informative Speaking Sarah Esquivel won 5^th place in her first tournament.

At the Laredo United South UIL Tournament, the Wildcats had a strong showing in the Math and Social Studies events. In the Mathematics (11^th) Gift Owolabi won 2^nd place. In Calculator Applications, Gift Owolabi won tournament champion by winning 1^st place while teammate Jazmine Velasquez won the 3^rd place medallion. In Number Sense, Gift Owolabi won tournament champion by winning 1^st place. The team of Gift Owolabi, Jazmine Velasquez, and Shawn Perez won overall second place team. In Social Studies, Audrey Arroniz won the 2^nd place medallion and with the help of teammates Robert May and Diego Reyes, they won second place Social Studies team.

The Wildcat UIL team’s next stop was the Eagle Pass HS UIL Tournament. Even though this group of UIL’ers was a small one, the Wildcats faced off with 6-A schools in fine style and were in 6^th place going into the last event but managed to pull a pressure comeback from the journalism team to secure a fourth place spot and bring home the 4^th place overall Sweepstakes trophy. In Calculator Applications, Gift Owolabi won tournament champion by winning 1^st place in the 11^th grade divison, Gift also won tournament champion in Number Sense by winning the 1^st place medallion and rounded out her medal placements by winning 3^rd place in Mathematics. Jazmine Velasquez won the 2^nd place medallion in Number Sense, 3^rd place medallion in Mathematics and 5^th place in Calculator Applications. Ryan Garcia won 4^th place in Poetry Interpretation. Sarah Esquivel won 4^th place in Informative Speaking. Christian Perez won 5^th place in Science. Guadalupe Selgado won the 3^rd place medallion in News Writing and 3^rd place medallion in Editorial Writing. Lydia Rios won 5^th place in Headline Writing.

During the MacArthur UIL Tournament the Wildcats did an awesome job keeping up with the large San Antonio schools such as Reagan, Lady Bird Johnson, Brandeis and others. In News Writing Maria Guadalupe Selgado won 4^th place while sister Maria Isabel won 10^th place. In Feature Writing, Lydia Rios won the 3^rd place medallion. In Editorial Writing, Lydia Rios won tournament champion by winning 1^st place. In Headline Writing, Maria Guadalupe Selgado won 8^th place. The Journalism team of Lydia Maria Guadalupe, and Maria Isabel won 2^nd place overall. In Number Sense, Gift Owolabi won 7^th place (11^th & 12^th grade division). In Calculator Applications Gift Owolabi won tournament champion by winning the 1^st place medallion while teammate Jazmine Velasquez won 7^th place. In Mathematics, Gift Owolabi won 4^th place while Jazmine Velasquez won 10^th place.

After the MacArthur UIL Tournament, the Wildcats would not be denied a top finish and brought home the 1^st place overall Sweepstakes trophy from the South San Antonio UIL Tournament. The Wildcats held their own against 6-A schools and fought to the end when tied for first with South Side with one event to go. However, the Wildcats edged out the win in fine style and came home tournament champions. In Computer Applications, Jazlyn Solis won the champion medallion when she won 1^st place while sister,Tianna Solis, won 3^rd place--this was the second consecutive 1^st and 3^rd for Jazlyn and Tianna. In Number Sense, Gift Owolabi won 3^rd place. In Social Studies, Michael Uriegas, Jozlin Perez, and Audrey Arroniz won 2^nd place team. In Calculator Applications, Gift Owolabi and Jazmin Velasquez delivered a one-two punch to the competition by winning 1^st and 2^nd place.In Computer Science, Will May put his computer programming skills to work and won 4th place. In News Writing, Maria G. Selgado won the championship medallion by winning 1^st place. In Feature Writing, Lydia Rios won second place while teammate Maria G. Selgado won fifth place. In Editorial Writing, Maria G. Selgado won 3^rd place and Nadia Riojas won 4^th place. In Mathematics, Gift Owolabi won 2^nd place. This made it a gold, silver, and bronze medal day for Gift. In Headline Writing, Lydia Rios won second place while Maria G. Selgado won third place. The Wildcat Journalism team of Maria G. Selgado, Lydia Rios, Nadia Riojas, and Isabel Selgado won the gold as first place journalism team.

The final stop for the Wildcats of the regular season was the Somerset UIL Tournament. The Wildcats wrapped up the regular season with another small group of competitors who held their own against big schools such as Southwest, Reagan, Port Lavaca Calhoun, and others by winning many individual top awards. In Accounting, William May won the 2^nd place medallion—no one had one a medal in this event in at least 5 years. In Social Studies, the team of Audrey Arroniz, Michael Uriegas, and Jozlin Perez won tournament champions by winning1^st place. In the newest event, Copy Editing, Nadia Riojas won tournament champion by winning 1^st place. In Mathematics, Gift Owolabi won tournament champion by winning 1^st place. In Number Sense ( 9^th & 10^th grade division), Audrey Arroniz won the 2^nd place medal while Jazmine Velasquez won 4^th place. In Number Sense (11^th & 12^th grade division), Gift Owolabi won 4^th place. In Calculator Applications (9^th and 10^th grade division), Jazmine Velasquez won tournament champion by winning 1^st place. In Calculator Applications (11^th and 12^th grade division), Gift Owolabi won tournament champion by winning 1^st place. The team of Gift Owolabi, Jazmine Velasquez and Abel Ayala won tournament champions by winning 1^st place Calculator Applications team.

Congratulations to all the fine UIL Wildcat competitors and their coaches on an awesome job throughout the regular season. The Cats will now compete in district competition in Devine on March 22, 23, and 28 where they hope to advance to the regional competition in Corpus. Good luck Wildcats! Wildcat UIL Brings Home Many Awards From Somerset UIL Meet

Congratulations to the Wildcat UIL team that traveled to Somerset’s annual UIL Tournament. The team came together and put on a fantastic showing to bring home several individual awards as they prepare for district competition coming up the last week in March.

Shai Searcy Wins Constitutional Oratorical Contest

Advances to the District Contest in Hondo

Congratulations to Miss Shai Searcy for winning the American Legion Constitutional Oratorical Contest. Shai wrote and delivered a spectacular speech on the Free Enterprise System. Shai will now represent Carrizo Springs at the district contest where she will compete against speakers from the surrounding areas including Laredo, Medina Valley, Crystal City, Eagle Pass, Devine, Hondo and others. The contest will be held on January 21 in Hondo. Other awesome competitors who represented Carrizo Springs with utmost honor and pride include Jackie Reynolds and Juan Oyervides.
