UIL Hosts Wildcat Country UIL Math and
Science Tournament

Carrizo Springs HS hosted its first annual Wildcat Country
Math and Science Tournament. The results
of the meet are as follows. The contest
was a success and included a visit from 3-A and 4-A schools from the
surrounding area as well as 5-A school, Wagner High School. This is the first time Carrizo hosts this
tournament and it is hoped that it continues to grow. Our Wildcats had an awesome showing in “our
house.”
For overall Sweeptakes:
Karen Wagner HS – 1st place, Carrizo Spring HS – 2nd
place, Dilley High HS –3rd place.
Individual Awards for our Wildcat UIL are as follows: In Number Sense (Novice) Sinaloa Lopez won
2nd place, Jean Velasquez 3rd place. In Number
Sense (Veteran) Jazmine Velasquez won 1st place and Audrey
Arroniz 2nd Place. First place Number Sense Team went to Sinaloa
Lopez, Jazmine Velasquez, and Jean Velasquez. In Calculator Applications (Novice), Jean Velasquez wond 2nd
place. In Calculator Applications (Veteran), Jazmine Velasquez won 2nd
place while Sinaloa Lopez won 4th place. Second place Calculator Team went to Sinaloa
Lopez, Jazmine Velasquez, and Jean Velasquez.
In Mathematics (Veteran) Jazmine
Velasquez won 3rd place, Christian Perez won 4th place,
Jacob Arambula won 5th place, and Audrey Arroniz won 6th
place. Second place Mathematics Team
went to Jazmine Velasquez, Christian Perez, and Jacob Arambula. In Science
(Novice), Maria Arias won 1st place, Steven Perales won 3rd
place. In Science (Veteran), Christian Perez won 1st place and Jacob
Arambula won 3rd place. The Top Science Scores for the meet went to
Christian Perez in Biology and
Steven Perales in Physics.

Valerio and Mr. Escamilla would like to thank the following UIL coaches and
students for their assistance with a smooth contest: Mrs. Flores-Ramirez, Mr. Byars, Mr. Haberman,
Ms. Herrera. A heartfelt thanks goes to
Ms. Bernice Romero and Mrs. Janie Garcia for their help with a wonderful
hospitality room. Special thanks to Jacklyn Reynolds and Chris Gloria for helping
with all aspects of the tournament.
In addition,
thank you to the following teachers for allowing us to use their rooms in order
to run a great contest: Mr. D Valerio,
Ms. Herrera, Ms. S. Arroniz, J.
Haberman, R. Trevino and Mr. Parra. Thanks
to Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Chapa and the senior class for hosting the concession
stand.
As always
thank you to the UIL support staff that work so diligently behind the scenes to
make sure all paperwork, supplies, materials, etc. are ready. These include: Mr. Alejandro Orosco and his staff, Mr. Marco
Mendez and his staff, Mr. Michael Uriegas and his staff, Mr. Jesse Muñiz and his staff, and Dr. Alberto
Gonzales and his staff.
Other personnel who contributed to make this
contest a success include: Mrs. Ponce, Mrs. Karnes, Ms. Vidaurri, and Mrs.
Nesmith. Thanks to Mrs. Gonzalez for coming to show her support on Saturday.
Hearty congratulations go out to Mr. Daniel Valerio and Mrs. Victoria Linnard
for making sure all the contests ran smoothly.
Last, but not least, thank you to Rosie Lira and Maria Ester Rodriguez,
members of our wonderful custodial staff.
