Wildcat UIL Continues State Tradition

Owolabi Wins Regional Champion and Selgado Wins Regional Finalist

Congratulations to Gift Owolabi and Maria Guadalupe Selgado who won UIL Regional medallions at the UIL Regional Academic Meet in Corpus Christi.  Gift Owolabi continues her first place pre and post season perfect record by winning Regional Champion in Calculator Applications and secured her third consecutive trip to the UIL State Academic Meet in Austin—extraordinary accomplishment.  In addition, Gift won the fourth place medallion in Number Sense and tied for sixth place in Mathematics.  Journalism competitor, Maria Selgado, won a fifth place regional finalist medallion in News Writing and a regional finalist medallion in Editorial Writing and secured state alternate in her events.

This marks the thirty-sixth year out of thirty-nine, since a competitor first qualified for state in Wildcat UIL Academics in 1979, that a Wildcat UIL competitor has qualified for state.  “We are so thankful and lucky to have such wonderful and dedicated students and passionate coaches who continue to represent our school and community with hard work, dedication, honor and pride—once again our dear Wildcat emblem will travel to represent at state,” said Ruben Z. Escamilla, UIL Academic Director.

We would like to wish Gift and Maria and their coaches Mr. Daniel Valerio, Jr. (Calculator Applications) and Mr. Ines Valerio (Journalism), the best of luck at the UIL State Academic Meet in Austin which will be on May 3-5.  Awesome Wildcat Brain Power!
